Mortal Kombat has multiple comic spanning various years and publishing companies. First, Midway had the license to Mortal Kombat comics. Midway’s comics were to be tie-ins that launched with the Mortal Kombat games. These comics gave backstory to the games.

Then came the comics by Malibu Comics. These comics took more liberties with the original storyline as opposed to providing backstory and canon information. This line of comics was canceled after 10 months because of low sales.

Finally, DC Comics got a hold of the Mortal Kombat comics. The first comic was for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. The comic was meant to give backstory for the game as well as merge the worlds of DC Universe and Mortal Kombat.

The second comic was Mortal Kombat X: Blood Tales.

The comic was a prequel to Mortal Kombat X.

This series was published in January of 2015.
