If you’ll recall, Luke’s first dream was to join the Imperial Academy and become a pilot for the Empire. Thirty years later, Finn is a First Order Stormtrooper who has realized he has nothing left to fight for. Of course, Luke wouldn’t have been a Stormtrooper per se, but we can easily imagine that he would have come to the same conclusion as Finn and eventually defected. Finn’s current situation can therefore be seen as one of the paths Luke Skywalker didn’t take.
