Lifetime reader of comics and fan of Planet of the Apes. When the two combine I can barely contain myself. Image, Boom and Titan comics fight for shelf space with Doctor Who DVDs.

No. 9: The Electric Sublime

Although this was announced before the SDCC, it’s official launch made up part of IDW’s weekend slate. It’s a crime comic mixed with surrealist Art; what’s not to love? Written by W. Maxwell Prince and illustrated by Martin Morazzo the story will revolve around mind altering reactions to various famous paintings, add into the mix a famous Art detective who has just been released from an asylum and you have the groundwork for a truly bizarre comic. Again, what’s not to love?

The promotional images at SDCC came with the tag line “Ceci n’est pas une comic book” which is a clever pun on a Magritte painting. It means “This is not a comic book” which is true, it’s not a comic book, it’s a promotion for a comic book.

This level of wit has me sold from the very beginning.
