Lifetime reader of comics and fan of Planet of the Apes. When the two combine I can barely contain myself. Image, Boom and Titan comics fight for shelf space with Doctor Who DVDs.

No. 4: Young Animal – DC Imprint

SDCC Doom Patrol

More great news from SDCC 2016!  It’s been a while since I got excited by any comics from the big two publishers. The last time was for Becky Cloonan’s take on The Punisher and I wasn’t very impressed with the result. So for DC to draw me in with not one but a ‘range’ of comics is quite impressive.

Under the watchful eye of Gerard Way, the Young Animal Imprint will release four new titles in autumn featuring some recognizable characters from older DC comics and some brand new ones. The first up is a modernisation of Doom Patrol which had its heyday when it was written by Grant Morrison. It promises to be a strange comic packed with strange heroes and even stranger villians.

There is also the return of Shade, this time having changed into a woman. It’s written by Cecil Castellucci who has already stated that this is the same character from Peter Milligan’s run in the 90’s and fans of the previous comic will be pleased by how it all fits together. Definitely one to watch out for.

Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye and Mother Panic will both be co-written by Way and each seems to have a cast of peculiar characters. The Art work that has been made available for these comics are different in style but appear to have the same overall tone.

If you have a limited budget it may be difficult to pick which of the comics to pick up initially but keep checking this site from September and we’ll bring you the lowdown on how well each title performs.
