No. 2: Ben Affleck

  • Daredevil/Matt Murdock in Daredevil (2003)
  • Batman/Bruce Wayne in the DC Extended Universe (2016-Present)

Ben Affleck is an actor with one of the most divisive careers imaginable. Some fans love everything he has been in and/or directed (Good Will Hunting (1997), Argo (2012), Gone Girl (2015), The Accountant (2016), etc.) while others remember his major mid-00's missteps and cannot stand his acting or directing. One thing many comic book fans agree on is that his take on the Daredevil in 2003 was not groundbreaking or spectacular. Fans have since embraced Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Daredevil for the Netflix series, making the misjudged 2003 version even more maligned.

In terms of redemption, Affleck’s take on Batman is praised by most DC fans as being perfect casting for an older and more bitter version of Bruce Wayne. All fans can do is hope that Affleck’s future endeavors as the Caped Crusader – Justice League (2017) and a solo Batman film rumored for a 2018 release – result in an authentic kind of dark and gritty heroism. With Zack Snyder directing most of Justice League and Matt Reeves taking over directing duties for the solo movie, that seems all but guaranteed.
