No. 3: Chris Evans

  • Human Torch/Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four Franchise (2005-2007)
  • Jake Jensen in The Losers (2010)
  • Captain America/Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2011-Present)

Some actors play one comic book character, few play two, almost none play more than two. Chris Evans is the rare actor who has played three different comic book characters.

Evans was one of the very few bright spots in the two dismal Fantastic Four films he featured in. Many fans agree that those movies were bad, but, thanks to 2015's disastrous attempt, they are still probably the best live-action Fantastic Four films thus far. Evans’ take on the young, immature, thrill-seeker, Johnny Storm was a high point of both films.

From 2003-2006, the comic book version of The Losers, created by Andy Diggle and Jock ran for 32 issues. In 2010, it was adapted into a movie and Chris Evans was cast as Jake Jensen. Very similarly to his role as Johnny Storm, Jensen was an immature, but extremely intelligent computer hacker. This film has become something of a cult classic amongst comic book fans.

Starting in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans took on his most iconic role to date as Steve Rogers. At first he was reluctant to take the role, partly due to the mixed reviews of the two Fantastic Four films and also because he did not want to be typecast in superhero roles. As we can see now, Evans’ decision to take on the role of Cap may have been one of the best of his career. Unfortunately, Evans will complete his current contractual tenure as Steve Rogers at the conclusion of the second Avengers: Infinity War film in 2019. Whether he will renew or move on is yet to be seen.
