Vampyr (PS4, Xbox One, Windows)

It’s been so long since a good video game focussing on the children of the night, so it’s good to see Dontnod Entertainment revisiting these old favourites with Vampyr. In what will hopefully be a new direction for the undead, the player character is a recently transformed doctor torn between his newfound thirst for blood and the Hippocratic Oath. The action RPG nature of the game allows the player to choose how evil a vampire they wish to be, and it has been stated that you can finish the game without killing a single person. Other unusual elements of vampire lore have been promised: the player will only be able to enter houses with an invitation and they will have the ability to turn NPCs into vampires.

Dontnod Entertainment’s previous game was the award-winning Life is Strange; Vampyr seems to be a different sort of game, but hopefully the excellent storytelling that characterised their previous effort can be realised in a new setting.

Expected release date: TBA 2017
