I'm a 35 year old Canadian living in Ontario. I read comics, I love to draw and I collect comic art. I also teach karate, play hockey, and am a dad to 3 girls! My comic book passion lies with Batman and his pals with Nightwing taking a very close #2 favourite position. I began collecting comic art in 2013 and I have several commissions done by Ken Lashley and an amazing Francis Manapul Batman. As well I have sold a few of my own creations!

No. 2: Death In the Family

rob2

DC Comics found out through their feedback that their readership actually did not like this new Robin at all.  Was it because he was usurping the role undeservedly?  Was it because people didn't like this new post crisis origin?  The editors were not exactly sure what brought about the feverish hate for the character, but it was certainly real and growing.

In response to all of the feedback on Jason Todd as Robin, DC offered a telephone phone-in poll. This was pre-internet after all.

(Spoilers)

During the story arc of what eventually became Death In The Family the Joker had put Robin in a position where he would most assuredly die.  If readers phoned number A, Batman would arrive in the knick of time to save him.  If they phoned number B, Robin would die!  It was a close vote in the end but, Jason Todd was killed by the Joker!

Unlike many deaths in comics these days, Jason Todd stayed dead for quite a while.  He was dead from 1988 until the Under The Red Hood storyline in 2005, 17 years later.
