Mera is a beautiful redhead who is known for not taking too much crap from people. She has complete control over water, superhuman strength and the ability to travel between her home dimension and Earth. Mera has a very intricate origin story, just like Aquaman. She is originally from a different dimension, Xebel, which she fled in order to escape a villain named Leron.
After meeting Aquaman, they had a child together—their son who eventually died at the hand of Black Manta. After resentment between Mera and Aquaman grew, the two were in a violent confrontation, in which Aquaman believed Mera had died after she ran away. It was later revealed that she was brainwashed and held captive in the Netherworld. In a few story arcs, she is also a trained assassin! What is with superheroes and their assassin lovers?
Maybe Batman and Aquaman spent too much time together in the Brave and the Bold.
