In the film that started one of the most popular superhero franchises ever, we see how Wolverine was first introduced to Charles Xavier and the rest of the “X-Men”. This was also our first glimpse into what would be a nearly two-decade-long reign for Hugh Jackman as one of the most beloved comic book character portrayals ever. Jackman takes this character from having barely any lines and being a reluctant team player in this film, and turns him into the animalistic and tortured soul that we saw in The Wolverine.

This film brought some other notable X-Men characters to the silver screen as well. The main cast included the likes of Professor X, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, Mystique and Sabretooth among others. Some of these heroes (and villains) return throughout the franchise, allowing their characters to grow and develop; the most notable is undoubtedly Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Overall, as far as origin movies go, this is one of the best across all comic book platforms.
