Best Selling Video Games in 2018 – A Guided Opinion

So there are a lot of games coming out this year, but which ones will make the video game releases blockbuster list? That’s the real question. I’m going to run through the games I believe will be the best sellers of 2018. So what makes a game a best seller? Well a few things actually, the story being the Key to any best seller. A good story that is easy to follow and that pulls you in will get a sale every time.

Another critical factor in a best seller is Playability. How easy is it to learn the controls? Is there too much going on with the controller, too many commands to keep up with? All these things contribute to the playability of a game. Last but not least, marketing! How much advertising does the game studio put behind the game? The better the ad and the more often you have it aired or published, the higher the chance of the game being a blockbuster.

Darksiders 3

So, let's dive into the list of the best video game releases for 2018. The first game that comes to mind sure to be a blockbuster is Darksiders 3. The Darksiders has been a hit series ever since it first debuted back on January 5th, 2010. The original Darksiders game was built on a hack n slash platform much like God of War. The ironic thing is you played the game as War one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, bother to Death, Strife and Fury the last of the Nephilim tasked with the duty to bring balance to order.

Then on August 14th, 2012 THQ and Vigil games hit us with Darksiders 2 with a new RPG style platform crossed with the Hack n Slash of its predecessor. This time you played as Death on a mission to save your brother from some trouble he’s gone and got into. Now sometime this year Darksiders 3 is set to hit store shelves. Don’t know too much about this game but what I do I’ll share with you.

So in Darksiders 3, you play as Fury, the sister of War and Death. As Fury, your mission will be to hunt down and kill the Seven Deadly Sins. WOW! Now that sounds like fun armed with a whip sword much like Ivy from Soul Caliber, and Fury is one bad chick. The game is being developed by a new company Gunfire Games and will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year but no official release date as of yet.

God of War

 

Next game that comes to mind as a best seller is God of War. This was a considerable title when it first came out on PlayStation 2 back in 2005. The original God of War was based on Greek mythology where you play as Kratos, son of Zeus. Kratos is hell-bent on bringing the Gods to justice and seeks revenge on his father for exiling him out of Mount Olympus.

The games were built as a third person Hack n Slash and did well enough to spawn six sequels and spin-offs tales, Before Uncharted dethroned God of War. Well, Kratos is coming back the first quarter of this year, but it may not be the God of War you remember playing back in the day. Where the original games where set it Greek mythology this new God of War will be taking us into the world of Norse mythology even though it is still being considered the eighth installment in the series and is supposed to take place following the events of God of War 3.

But wait there’s more about this reboot that will make it feel completely different from the old God of War games. Kratos will be returning, but this time he’s brought someone along. His son Atreus, that’s right folks Kratos now has a son. You are tasked with the added duty to protect him as you fight your way through hordes of enemies, talk about adding a challenge this time as you're fighting the enemies now you have to keep a kid alive. Either way, this game is sure to be a best seller when it hits store shelves sometime in the coming months.

Monster Hunter World

Another game sure to hit the best sellers list this year is Capcom’s Monster Hunter World. In this open-world action adventure role-playing game, you are a Hunter commissioned by the “Research Commission” to hunt down and kill/capture large monsters. You won’t have any particular abilities to help you hunt, based on the equipment you have equipped.

So you’ll need to make sure you keep the most current gear and weapons equipped. One significant change to Monster Hunter world that will set it apart from other RPGs is the ability to drink healing potions with moving, yes that’s right you will not have to be vulnerable while you’re trying to heal back up. Monster Hunter world will have a dynamic weather system as well as day to night time cycle.

No load screens when you move from one zone to the next, with the seamless transition system. Monster Hunter will have plenty to keep you entertained for hours on end with a vast world to explore, lots of loot to find and a crap ton of beast to hunt this game is sure to make the best sellers list when it releases later this month.

Soulcalibur VI

If you’re a fan of the fighting genre, then you may have been a fan at one point or another of our next best seller. Soul Calibur 6 is sure to find it’s way onto the best sellers list. The Bandai Namco series has been a hit for years both in arcades and on consoles. In this installment of the series, we are taken back to the events of the first game.

Where we'll be tasked with a mission to uncover some hidden truths, what kind of hidden facts you say? You have to play the game to find out. There will be plenty of returning characters as well as new. Still, the same 3D fight game we all have come to love with one new addition to speak of, the Reversal Edge this new tactic acts as a combo breaker. This new addition should add an even higher element of skill to the game. Keep your eyes peeled for this sleeper hit sometime this Winter.

Anthem

Bioware has a new game coming out this year that is sure to get on the best sellers list. Anthem is an Action RPG third-person shooter, set in an open world. You play a freelancer who has set out to see what the world holds beyond the city walls. In Anthem, you will don an exosuit and fight with some of the most high-tech weaponry and Superhuman abilities.

The exosuits are customizable, so you can build your freelancer to fit your style of play. Two of the classes were shown in a demo at E3 expo last year, the Ranger and the Colossus. The Ranger is a high damage class with high speed, while the Colossus is a more significant more heavily armored class meant to take on the tanking role. Look for this title sometime this year.

More Great Games Coming

A few other mentionable video game releases for the best sellers list that I don’t have space to go into are Red Dead Redemption 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, State of Decay 2, and Crackdown 3 all of which should make the top ten best sellers list of 2018, based on the series history all these games had excellent feedback on previous releases so I would have to believe that there is no reason they should make the list.

Well, I have given you nine of the top ten best sellers of 2018. Hopefully, this will help you in the decision-making process when you're headed out to the game store this year to pick up a new game to play.
