Nerdcast Podcast Ep. 24 Topics

Fantastic Four

Fox’s next installment of the Fantastic Four series was released this week. There was a lot of curiosity surrounding this film before it ever came out. This skepticism stemmed from leaked set photos, casting, and the review embargo. We think that all movies are subjective and that you should hold off any ill thoughts about a film until you see it with your own eyes, especially if it’s something that many had bad prejudice against in the first place. The movie hasn’t been getting any particularly good representation as of right now considering the notorious score it has been getting on Rotten Tomatoes. Early reviews are in and critics aren’t holding back on what they feel,

The movie feels like a protracted teaser for a more exciting follow-up that, depending on whether audiences warm to this relatively low-key approach, might never happen. Brian Lowry - Variety

The scores and negative publicity surrounding the film might be enough to stop someone from watching the film, but I’ll remind you that there were people who didn’t actually hate it. All film is subjective so we’ll leave you to find out whether or not you like the film and if you think Fox should continue on with the franchise.

Deadpool

In the middle of the night the Red Band trailer for Deadpool was released on Conan. The nighttime show had everyone tuning in so that they could be among the first to see just how rated R Deadpool was going to be. Most fans can agree that as time goes on, the hype for Deadpool gets higher and higher, especially because the trailer featured Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) having fun talking on multiple enemies at his leisure while simultaneously cracking jokes left and right. Aside from the fun and games, the trailer does a god job of showing us that Deadpool’s origin will be done in similar fashion to the comics.

Deadpool is set to release February 12, 2016.

Civil War

The hottest rumor to drop this week was that the official teams for Captain America: Civil War have been revealed. In the movie Captain America and his ideologies will be going up against Iron Man and his ideologies in a battle of Liberty and Security. Allegedly the side of Captain America will consist of Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, and The Winter Soldier. Meanwhile, team Iron Man will be made of The Vision, Spider-Man, Black Widow, and War Machine. These teams both seem pretty menacing and whatever goes down, we know it’ll be epic.

X-Men

An X-Men TV show is officially in the works! X-Men has been a part of the movie universe for a long time but hasn’t really mad any striking attempts at joining the silver screen as or recently. It’s great to see that we’ll be able to enjoy the lore of X-Men on TV. The silver screen is an open market for superhero shows and it’s always great to see our childhood favorites in the comfort of the living room couch.

Sony Movie Slate

The Chairman of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman, has given us the full movie slate until the year 2019. The list features many movies such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Underworld 5, Ghostbusters and The Magnificent Seven. The two movies getting the most attention are the established Bad Boys franchise and the mysterious video game movie- Uncharted. The Uncharted movie has a scheduled release of June 20, 2017. If things are good, then we should be enjoying some familiar franchises as well as some new and awaited ones.

Spider-Man

Reports that Spider-Man will in fact make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War have arose again. This time people are reporting that they have actually seen Spiderman on set during filming.

Whatever role Spider-Man has in the film, it’s going to be something like a cameo. It wouldn’t make complete sense for Spider-Man to pop into the MCU with no prior mentions and stick around for the whole film.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange’s cinematographer, Ben Davis, said that Doctor Strange could be Marvel’s Fantasia. He also said that he wants the film to be, “dark and psychedelic”. Ben Davis’ previous films for Marvel have been Guardians of The Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Regardless of your opinion on both movies, you can’t deny that his camera work brought tons of Box Office money to the studios he’s worked for. Whatever his visual vision for Doctor Strange is, there is not much of a reason to doubt that it’ll look good.

The Flash

This week CW casted Kid Flash for The Flash season two. The Australian actor Keiynan Lonsdale will be playing Kid Flash.

Just like when we met [Flash star Grant Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. "We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show. Central City PD

The guy sounds like a genuinely exciting person just like the beloved Grant Gustin. We can’t wait to see his acting ability in action again on The Flash this winter.
