For the past decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has trained fans to wait until ALL the credits roll through before leaving the theater. Over the past 15 films, the MCU has racked up 26 post-credit scenes. Most of them foreshadow the next film or a new character, while some add a humorous aspect to the film’s finale. ComiConverse contributor Joseph Gioeli ranks the best 10 of the current 26 post-credit scenes.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Post Credit Scenes: Ranking the Top 10

Disclaimer: This list is current as of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

  1. Iron Man 2 (2010)  Thor’s Hammer

This scene shows S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Phil Coulson checking on an incident sight in New Mexico. The music is dramatic as the camera shows Coulson staring into a giant crater in the desert. He then turns away from it, and says into his phone, presumably to Nick Fury, “Sir. We found it”. It is then discovered that Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, has created said crater.

This alludes to what would be the MCU’s next film, Thor. This post-credit scene also starts to get the ball rolling for an Avengers movie as well as Marvel’s massive interconnected cinematic universe.

Marvel has mastered the art of the subtle hint in these scenes. The peek at Mjolnir and the short, concise line from Agent Coulson is still impactful almost a decade later.
