ComiConverse Lead Film Critic, Jordan Samuel, provides a comprehensive list of what to look for at the cinema, and on television, in third installment of his ComiConverse monthly previews.

Welcome to a new series on ComiConverse, that details the upcoming releases of the month which is being shaped up to be a solid one for Marvel fans and general movie goers. Along with some other interesting things added in the mix May should be a great month for film.

So buckle up and look out for anything that catches your eyes, because May is looking incredible!

*This includes UK and US film release dates*

Captain America: Civil War

Finally, after months of build-up the next installment in the MCU is around the corner which will change the series forever.

The Russo Brothers direct the next MCU chapter which has been in development since the heavily regarded Winter Solider was in production. It’s the biggest film of the year Captain America: Civil War brings Iron Man and Captain America in a war which has been bubbling in the universe for some time.

It also sees the inclusion of long awaited MCU characters with Black Panther and Spider-Man – thus being the largest film in the successful film series. Critics have been lauding it as the best in the franchise, including the official ComiConverse review.

One year after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, another international incident involving the Avengers resulting in collateral damage occurs, prompting politicians to form a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to call in the team. When Steve Rogers attempts to protect his friend Bucky Barnes from this act, he is brought into conflict with Tony Stark. This results in the fracturing of the Avengers into two opposing factions–one led by Rogers who wishes to operate without regulation, and the other led by Stark who supports government oversight–while the world is threatened by a new enemy.

Captain America: Civil War Drops May 6th (North America) Out now in the UK!

Green Room

Indie film director Jeremy Saulnier has been receiving critical acclaim for some time now, and his new film Green Room is gaining massive buzz. Patrick Stewart leads the horror thriller as Darcy Banker Neo-Nazi, and provides one killer performance that is getting early Oscar shout outs.

Could it be the surprise hit of the year? It's most likely.

After witnessing a murder, a punk rock band is forced into a vicious fight for survival against a group of maniacal skinheads.

Green Room hits April 15, 2016 (US).

The Angry Birds Movie

This one is a strange one, because who ever thought The Angry Birds would have a movie.  Nobody which makes this animated adventure all the more confusing.

I have dabbled in the game on train journeys and never understood the phenomenon.

Following last month’s Ratchet & Clank the film will mark the second video-game based adaptation of 2016. Could the movie deliver the first solid game based film franchise? Only Time will tell.

The Angry Birds Movie lands in theaters May 20, 2016 (North America) and 13 May 2016 (UK).

A small paradise community of flightless birds has long lived peacefully, except for Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird filled with constant anger. The birds got shocked by the sudden appearance of pigs led by Leonard (Bill Hader) on the island. The flock teams up to investigate the pigs and their intentions.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

Sequel to the decent 2014 comedy Neighbors, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising continues the story of Mac Radner and his bad luck with the people next door. This time haunted by a new Sorority crew which will challenge his inner battle for some peace and quite.

I am personally looking forward to what will probably be some crazy Seth Rogen comedy. The first film surprised many and hopefully will follow with the sequel.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising smashes the front door open on May 20, 2016 (North America) and May 6 2016 (UK).

Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) are expecting their second child and preparing to move out of their house. They soon reunite with Teddy (Zac Efron) to help battle the sorority sisters of Kappa Kappa Nu, led by Shelby (Chloë Grace Moretz), who moved in to their neighboring house. Kappa Kappa Nu is a new sorority that branched off from Phi Lambda Phi, led by Madison (Selena Gomez).

Alice Through the Looking Glass

Another Sequel? Yeah, you heard that right. Disney drops the second installment in the Alice franchise Alice Through the Looking Glass this month – after the $1B made from the original all eyes are on the sequel.

I disked the Tim Burton reimagining, due to over-the-top acting and the connection between actor. It felt like a slap in the face to its source material.

But could the sequel change the mind of many film fans including me? That’s the question.

Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is out worldwide 27 May 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse

The last big comic book movie for a few months is out this month, ending the trilogy started with First Class. X-Men: Apocalypse is Bryan Singer’s last shot at the series and our favorite Mutant team featuring the first live-action take on X-Men Villain Apocalypse.

Who will finally take the team to war and teaches them survival of the fittest. After the highly successfully Days of Future Past all eyes are on the sequel, that will bring in an iconic villain and his horsemen.

It brings back Jean Grey and Cyclops back in the picture (to name a few) focusing on their adventures. Set in the 80’s it should featuring some sweet music and visuals which all work in parallel to the Egyptian Mutant Apocalypse. We also get to finalizes stories of Magneto, Xavier and Mystique which all without doubt will fight for their lives against Apocalypse.

Bryan Singer has delivered many amazing X-Men films including X2 and Days of future Past. I personally cannot wait for the film and will be reviewing it this coming Monday on ComiConverse.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

X-Men: Apocalypse speeds into theaters on 18 May 2016 (UK) and 27 May 2016 (US).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

UK Turtles fans say cowabunga! Because the sequel to the Ninja Turtles Reboot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is being released this month.

Following the average original, it pits the Turtles against Bebop and Rocksteady – two character who really made the animated show so much fun.

Personally I loved the reboot because it got the characters so right, even though their designs were to be desired. It feels like Paramount is following all the right steps in delivering a good turtles movie with the addition of Krang and Baxter.

Hopefully the movie delivers because I have been hyped since day one.

The Turtles come into conflict with T.C.R.I. scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman and the return of their enemy, The Shredder, who has hired Stockman to create mutants of his own in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady. Meanwhile, an extraterrestrial invasion above New York City is led by the Dimension X inhabitant known as Krang. The Turtles are joined in the fight with Splinter, and their human friends April O'Neil, Vern Fenwick and the vigilante Casey Jones.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows jumps out the sewers, on May 30th (UK) and June 3rd 2016 (US).

But what do you want to see this May?
