I am a proud Blerd who lives in the Pacific Northwest home. My dad had an interest in comic books and instilled a passion for them in me. After decades of being a Marvel Fanatic, I got sucked into the DC whirlpool that was The New 52 launch. Currently, I am moving more into various independent and non-mainstream titles. I am a proud supporter of local artists, comic book creators, and comic book businesses. My two goals as a writer for ComiConverse are 1) to highlight new, little-known, and/or diverse titles, artists and writers, and work that is coming out of the smaller publication houses and 2) to address issues of race, gender, and sexual orientation in comics and the industry.

No. 2: The Quarterback - Lila (from The Empty by Jimmie Robinson)

Lila, from issue #1 of The Empty

Lila, from issue #1 of The Empty

A good quarterback needs to be able to make quick, smart decisions and know how to read both a situation and his or her teammates. After an attempt on her life, Lila wakes up to a strange world filled with people and creatures unlike any she has ever seen. Somehow, within moments, she is able to decipher their language, join forces with an important ally, and demonstrate that she may be the only person who can bring life to the barren world of The Empty –much like a new recruit who is drafted to revitalize a franchise.

While that can be a successful maneuver, it can also be a failure; even Terry Bradshaw had a rocky rookie season. However, Lila’s gigantic eyes, long neck, and special abilities that are still coming to light should help her to stay on top of things on the field.

Check back in late August for a review of The Empty and an interview with Jimmie Robinson.
