Comic Book Movies: Batfleck vs. The Nolan Trilogy?

Whether you're a fan of the DCEU or not, there is no denying that their films have been the source of many arguments. A lot of comic book movie fans want the DCEU to succeed, but we haven't seen the majority of an audience love a DC film since Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy. Ben Affleck has confirmed that he's making at least one Batman film, hence the name "Batfleck". If he makes a trilogy, does it have the potential to be better than the Nolan trilogy? ComiConverse contributor Dewayne Edwards analyzes the proposition.

It's no secret that the DCEU isn't off to a great start. When it comes to the DCEU, there are a lot of disagreements and arguments about tone and style. If there's one view point that the majority of fans can agree on, it is that Ben Affleck plays a good Batman. This is ironic given that many were against the idea of Affleck playing Batman when the casting was announced. And a lot of us are hoping Affleck will help save the DCEU. Not only because he is such a good Batman, but also because he's a proven filmmaker. He could save the DCEU with his portrayal of Batman and his filmmaking skill.

Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy isn't just one of the greatest comic book movie trilogy ever, but one of the greatest trilogies of all time. This fact makes it hard to imagine that there can be a series of Batman films that could come close, especially with how the DCEU is going right now. Ever since it was announced Ben Affleck himself will be writing, directing, and starring in the next Batman film, and potential trilogy, it has been hard not to wonder if this will be the next greatest trilogy.

With none of Affleck's films yet made, based on potential alone, the Batfleck vs. Nolan Trilogy is a legit argument to have. Affleck has a very good chance at making an amazing trilogy, and there is even a possibility he could outdo Christopher Nolan. One reason of thinking that this is possible is the way Batman is portrayed. I think Bale's Batman was unique and I like the portrayal that he gave, but with only Batman v. Superman to judge by, I already prefer Ben Affleck's portrayal both of Batman and Bruce Wayne. If there was one thing that I did not like about Bale's Batman in Nolan's trilogy, it was the way Batman moved like a robot with joint issues when fighting.  The way his fighting was shot was also  choppy at times. When it comes to Ben Affleck, he doesn't just portray Batman and Bruce Wayne convincingly, his fighting skills and scenes are incredible too. They're shot clearly and the choreography is intricate and kinetic.

Obviously, making Batman look cool doesn't automatically make a great film. There's little argument that Christopher Nolan is a talented, original, and ambitious filmmaker. For his part, Ben Affleck, has won two oscars, one for best original screenplay and one for best picture. Affleck's clearly got the potential to make three great films. The one fact that, more than any other, convinced me that Affleck's trilogy would be superior to Nolan's is his love for Batman. Affleck isn't just a fan of Batman, he loves the character. So much so that he has even made a Batcave in his own house. Not just a regular man cave, but a Batcave. He obviously cares about the character of Batman and what that character represents. So in my opinion, even though I might be very optimistic about this, I believe Ben Affleck, or Batfleck, will make a better trilogy then Christopher Nolan.

So do you think Ben Affleck can give us the best Batman Trilogy yet?
