Metal Gear Solid is often regarded as the first proper stealth game with many claiming the title to be the best thing offered in the industry, with immense storytelling and engaging characters.

Game director and creator Hideo Kojima is a big film buff and has stated:

"Honestly, I'm a movie fan and that's very special to me. I honestly would love to make a movie someday, but that said, I think it has to be a certain special game that has to provide that right setting. But I don't think that game will be Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid was developed specifically to become a game. ...If it were to be made into a movie it would have to be something completely new. I wouldn't use my current scripts. I think I'd have to get somebody to get a new script and somebody else to direct it as a movie." – via The Atlantic

The franchise has always been regarded as one of the greats in the gaming landscape, and would work well in a movie format. Just the story of Big Boss alone would be enough for many fans, including gamers like me, who grew up with the series.

In 2015 we did get an update on the project, with Sony were eyeing up director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to oversee the adaptation. It was rumoured the Arad brothers - Avi and Ari - were producing the film, but since then nothing has been confirmed. Hopefully that will change in the following months.

That's our list on the Top 5 Potential Video Game Movie Franchises – will the curse be lifted in the coming years?

We will have to find out in time.
