Based on the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline which shares its namesake, this film opens up a world of time travel for the first time in the cinematic X-Men Universe. Wolverine is sent back to 1973 to stop a domino effect of Mystique killing Dr. Bolivar Trask, the man who is responsible for the Sentinel program. This film also gives us our first extended look at the Sentinels, and personifies them as one of the most threatening opposing forces to the X-Men, which they truly are.

Directed by Bryan Singer, this film brings back a familiar, and almost nostalgic feel from the first two X-Men movies. The style of the film, along with some familiar faces mixed with new characters makes for an intriguing storyline. The scene where McAvoy-Charles Xavier is able to communicate with Stewart-Charles Xavier is a look into, and a not-so-subtle reminder of Xavier, and in turn the X-Men’s entire philosophy about hope and the goodness in people.
