Marvel Cinematic Universe: Should Marvel’s Characters Come Home?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, known as the MCU, has been dominating the box office and fan interest for many years now. With the major success of recent movies, with how characters and their stories are being told, it's sometimes hard not to want the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have all their characters back under Marvel control. Dewayne Edwards will explain why it's not the best idea to have every character under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner.

When I am referring to the MCU, I'm talking about the Marvel characters that Disney owns for the purposes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which, as some of you may know, isn't all of them. Fox owns the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, along with other lesser known characters. Sony has majority ownership of Spider-Man and his side characters. But with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's constant box office success, should they have all their characters back to have even a bigger cinematic universe?

This seems like a dream come true.

Imagine their most recent movie, Captain America: Civil War, with every character that was in the actual Civil War comics arc.

Would that have worked, or a would that have been a complete mess?

We will never know and maybe that's a good thing. For the past few years, Fox and Sony have been criticized for some of their recent films, such as Fantastic Four and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. As we know, Sony has taken advantage of the success of the MCU and allowed Spider-Man to be part of the MCU, giving them about 40% ownership, with Sony owning the majority. This was something I was nervous about until I saw Captain America: Civil War, which helped restore my faith in what the MCU is going to do with Spider-Man. Even with that success, however, I don't think this should open the flood gates of the MCU taking all of their characters back.

With the success of Spider-Man being added to the MCU, it's easy to see that other characters from other studios may want to start getting in line to join the MCU. When it comes to Fox and all of their Marvel characters, they have seen their good share of bad times, but also their good share of good times as well. With their latest film, X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, there were mixed reviews and again, some fans are asking for the return of the X-Men characters to the MCU, so that some damage control could be done. But I don't think there was really any damage control necessary. As you think about it, when it comes to Fox,  we have gotten some pretty great movies, such as X2: X-Men United, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Deadpool.

That's not looking so bad if you ask me.

Another thing that's great about different studios having ownership over some Marvel characters is that we are able to see different tones and styles of movies. There were things done in X-Men: Days of Future Past, that I know Disney wouldn't  allow to happen, and that's what's so cool about it. Even with in the MCU, branching off on to Netflix, we are getting a different darker tone with their shows, such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.

They're working great!

If the MCU had all of their characters, we wouldn't be getting as many comic book movies released in such a short period of time, and as a huge comic book movie fan, that would be disappointing. I know some studios have flopped on comic book movies, (Fantastic Four, *cough* *cough*), but when looking at the calendar of release dates of different comic book movies, I can't help but be excited as a comic book movie fan.

Do you agree or do you think the MCU should have all of their characters back?

If not all of them, who specifically would you like to see make the switch over to the MCU?
