Darkwing Duck and DuckTales are two Disney shows that were epic childhood anchors for many of today's adults. However news broke this week that may have steered us all on to the rocks. Two separate universes? What the Duck? We have the story for you here on ComiConverse.

Brace yourselves people! Duckberg and St. Canard are not what we thought they were!

In one of the most baffling decisions ever to emerge from the darkest corners of the Disney empire, Darkwing Duck creator Tad Stones sat with The Hollywood Reporter this week, to commemorate the the 25th anniversary of Darkwing Duck and to discuss the show's legacy and a possible reboot.

This site's editorial section has loudly called for such a reboot - largely because our Editor-in-Chief ordered us to.

Admittedly, Darkwing Duck was never a show that took its canon very seriously. Within the show, there were multiple origin stories for multiple characters, but there were always a few things that fans could count on to anchor them to the ongoing saga of the 'Terror That Flapped In The Night'.

Darkwing Duck featured the outstanding voice work of legendary actor Jim Cummings, who ComiConverse interviewed not long ago.

The show appeared as part of The Disney Afternoon, alongside DuckTales, with Scrooge McDuck Huey, Dewey, Louie. There was another character who bridged the gap between the two shows, and reinforced the idea that these ducks were all part of the same flock. - Launchpad McQuack.

Launchpad was a fixture on both shows, making strong contributions to story arcs in both St. Canard and Duckberg.

Tad Stones began his interview by praising the writing on Darkwing Duck and the portrayal of the relationship between Drake Mallard and his daughter Gosalyn. However, when going on to discuss a possible revival of the franchise, Stones dropped bit of trivia that had the ComiConverse newsroom shaking its head.

Although both DuckTales and Darkwing Duck featured Launchpad as a regular supporting character, Stones announced that the two shows were taking place in "alternate universes".

Because Launchpad appeared in DuckTales and we used Roboduck as the Superman character, the hero who gets all the glory as opposed to Darkwing, fans try to connect the two realities. They are two different universes in my book. We work in the alternate Duckiverse.

Darkwing Duck already featured an alternate universe storyline, which centred around Negaduck... but DuckTales? A separate universe?

Really?

... And don't even get us started on Gizmoduck!

We have seen enough to know we have seen too much!

Rest in peace childhood memories. We can only hope a well thought-out Darkwing Duck reboot will one day resurrect them.
