I am a proud Blerd who lives in the Pacific Northwest home. My dad had an interest in comic books and instilled a passion for them in me. After decades of being a Marvel Fanatic, I got sucked into the DC whirlpool that was The New 52 launch. Currently, I am moving more into various independent and non-mainstream titles. I am a proud supporter of local artists, comic book creators, and comic book businesses. My two goals as a writer for ComiConverse are 1) to highlight new, little-known, and/or diverse titles, artists and writers, and work that is coming out of the smaller publication houses and 2) to address issues of race, gender, and sexual orientation in comics and the industry.

No. 1: Tight End – Braga (from Rat Queens)

Braga Cover

Cover of the Braga Special #1 (Jan. 2015)

A reliable and effective tight-end has to be versatile above all else. This position requires someone who has the strength to provide reliable blockage, the speed and height to be valuable when running routes, and the ability to handle the ball well. Braga was initially intended to make a minor appearance in Rat Queens, but in an interview with Comic Book Resources, Kurtis J. Wiebe, revealed that she made such an impression that he couldn’t let her “disappear on the sidelines.”

The warrior who was once heir to the orc throne, Braga walked away from her people when it became clear that they would never give up barbaric ways and enslaving enemies. She also knew that she would not be able to live fully as herself if she remained with the orcs. Braga’s mental and emotional fortitude and her physical brawn would enable her to excel as a tight-end.
