No. 5: "IT'S ALL CONNECTED"

It's no secret that most of SHIELD's high points in terms of quality storytelling have come when characters and events from the greater MCU world thread into SHIELD's weekly episodic structure. It took some time, but Marvel TV eventually realized that holding back from crossovers, cameos, and interlocking MCU stories was a mistake. Most of the audience wants to see those things, and won't tire of them quickly.

ADRIANNE PALICKI

More appearances from Lady Sif, Maria Hill, perhaps even Nick Fury?

Bring it on!

The MCU is one big, ongoing story and Agents of SHIELD is the only weekly dose of that universe. Don't hold back. Give us what we want. Amp up the connections to the films. Set up that kickass spinoff show centered on Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird with a multi-episode arc and backdoor pilot in Season 3. Delve further into the Inhumans mythos. Position the new Secret Warriors team to potentially play a behind-the-scenes role in next summer's Captain America: Civil War, not unlike how Coulson's behind-closed-doors antics led directly into a major plot point in the third act of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Shameless fan service is perfectly fine, especially if the alternative is what we got during the first-half of Season 1 -- uninteresting standalone stories that carried little weight and were largely forgettable.

Ultimately, there are a lot of ducks to get in a row for the writers and showrunners in Season 3. There are arcs that need to be completed, plot threads that need to be tied up, old characters to spin off and new ones to introduce. And there's the new challenge of Marvel Studios and Marvel TV now reporting to different bosses. There's a lot of work ahead, but a strong sophomore season has set the table nicely and there's a big opportunity for SHIELD to take a big step forward in Season 3.

So, what do you want to see SHIELD do in Season 3? Sound off in the comments below!
