Prior to the release of X-men: Days of Future Past, 20th Century Fox had plans in place for the next installment in the X-men series. X-Men: Apocalypse will be the next movie for the X-men series and it will be a big one. The movie  is scheduled for release on May 27, 2016. This film will certainly be widely anticipated, and could be one that blows Avengers: Age of Ultron out of the box office waters. It seems as though it will be based off the “X-men: Age of Apocalypse” comics storyline. This movie will be set chronologically after “X-men: Days of Future Past”, which was a massive hit for Fox, seeing in more the 500 million dollars worldwide in 2014.

So far there have been constant announcements about what mutants we will end up seeing in this next installment. This movie will be taking place in the past, unlike many of the titles fans are used to. Due to its time setting, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Evan Peters all will be returning to reprise their roles of Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Quicksilver. Although there is still a chance fans will get to see cameos or actual film time from older cast members playing their older selves.

Recently it was confirmed that Hugh Jackman will in fact be taking part in the film unlike what many assumed. This was due to Jackman stating that Wolverine 3 will be his last film. He stated on Doctor Oz that:

“It is my last time,” “It felt like it was the right time to do it. Seventeen years, I never thought in a million years it would last this long.”

Although every comic fan is devastated that Hugh Jackman is ending his run as Wolverine, fans will still be getting two more films with Jackman playing the role that has made him a household name.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be introducing one of the most loved and feared enemies in the X-men franchise and Marvel as a whole.

Apocalypse is one of the strongest mutants the X-men have ever faced. Apocalypse was born in Egypt under the name “En Sabah Nur”. He was the first ever mutant and was shunned by his peers. He was found by a group of nomadic raiders as a child. He had gray skin and was freakish in appearance. The nomads that raised him instilled the ideal that “the strong will survive". This would later shape his views in the future and be one of the main reasons he goes up against the X-Men.

In his origin story, Apocalypse faces a pharaoh, who believed himself to be a god, using alien technology. After defeating the pharaoh, Apocalypse used this technology to hibernate, until a time when more mutants populated the earth.

There is one thing for certain, this movie is going to be one of the biggest yet for comic book fans. This also has the potential to be larger and more talked about film than the Avengers, seeing as every passing day has more and more mutants popping up on set.

Only time will tell if this movie will be anything fans are hoping for.
