The Last Witch Hunter is a disjointed film release. It does have some charm in the overall action department but lacks the heart to be anything more.

The Last Witch Hunter is out in the UK and our film critic Jordan Samuel has seen the film, and dissects the new witch-hunting adventure.

Ever since the announcement that Vin Diesel would be hunting witches, I was so excited; mainly because of the crazy concept and awesome casting. In my head, everything was pointing towards a new franchise.

2015 has been a big year for action blockbusters, but does a witch-hunting Vin Diesel really work?

Find out as ComiConverse weighs in on the adventure.

Vin Diesel has not had the best career outside of the Fast and Furious and Riddick franchises; this has mainly been due to bad scripts and poor action. Sadly, The Last Witch Hunter falls into the same mediocre spot. The trailers all pointed towards something fresh and original, but that's not the case with this attempt at a new series.

The modern world holds many secrets, the most astounding being that witches still live among us. Centuries ago, Kaulder (Vin Diesel) managed to slay the all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. Before her death, she cursed the valiant warrior with her own immortality, separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Her resurrection now threatens the survival of the human race as Kaulder, the only one of his kind remaining, faces her vengeful wrath - Official IMBD Synopsis

The Last Witch Hunter is directed by Breck Eisner, a relative unknown face in the industry, who had so much potential to be a surprise hit this year. Instead, the film falls into the DVD rental abyss, with a few inspiring plot points, but little else.

At the heart of it all, The Last Witch Hunter plays out like a live action D&D rip-off with bad pacing. It also feels like it would have been better just released on TV instead of the big screen. Vin Diesel is stale in his role, and is given nothing else to do but mutter some cheesy dialog. He does have some comedic moments which work to some extent.

The main problem with him in this role is the script, which never made you care about his adventure, Micheal Caine and Kaulder do have some banter to make up for this, but their relationship is never explored correctly.

Michael Caine plays the best friend to Vin Diesel's character Kaulder, and does his best to explain the film's world but gets sidelined in the end. This is something that baffled me, because Caine is arguably the biggest name backing the film.

Elijah Wood is also in this one, helping out Vin Diesel. His character is the most boring thing about the story, just following Kaulder around most of time. This sucks because I know how good an actor Wood can be, but the film never brought that out in him and instead made him another shallow addition.

Rose Leslie on the other hand was interesting in her role, mainly because she feels more human that anyone else in the film. She doesn't deserve to be in a project this poor, and I hope we see more of her.

The action works well in The Last Witch Hunter, mostly because of Vin Diesels skill in this genre, though it sometimes can be very jerky. I loved the fight scenes between the witches which really are the best moments in the film.

I feel like if another director took helm of this project and the script was rewritten, we could have had a better film.

I'm disappointed with this one because it could have been amazing with some more talent behind it.

Hopefully, a sequel can refresh this potential series but will that happen?

Box office numbers will confirm that this weekend.
