Orphan Black, BBC America's successful science fiction series, has finished three full series and its second comic book series. A fourth season is due to premier in April. Our Kate Blake has binged the past three seasons and has this review of the first.

Orphan Black: Season 1 Review

It is pretty much impossible to write an Orphan Black Season 1 review without giving away many plot points. The main story arc Orphan Black the series is a mystery for the first few episodes. The difficulty in reviewing season one without spoilers is actually to the show's credit. This show keeps the story and character development constantly moving. This commitment to story complexity does, however, make it a nightmare to explain to those who have never heard of Orphan Black why they should watch.

I will try my best to give a spoiler free review here and then I will write a second post to recap and rate some of my most notable moments from season 1 in a second post.

What you need to know is that this is not a family show. It contains swear words, drugs, violence, sex and other scenes of a graphic nature which younger viewers may find disturbing.

The science in the show, while good, is fictional. Often my friends who are interested in science and watch the show will discuss some aspect of the show which, as far as I can tell, is not entirely plausible. The world of the show is one that resembles our own, but has some embellished elements.

If you know your biology/evolution and you can not enjoy shows which are not totally in line with our current understanding of those subjects, then this show is probably not for you.
