Comic Cons stole my life!
Heroes and Villains Fan Fest: First Class from Jersey to Georgia.
I kicked off 2016 with Heroes and Villains Fan Fest (HVFF) in New Jersey and couldn’t think of a better way to end 2016 than with those same incredible people who bring so much excitement and joy to the fans. HVFF Atlanta definitely did not disappoint! The ever approachable actors from shows such as Arrow, Gotham, and The Flash continue to provide a family type of atmosphere for those seeking to get a personal glimpse of the ‘real’ people behind their beloved TV show characters. In addition to the stellar line-up of guests regularly seen at HVFF, the event in Atlanta included cast members from top-notch shows like Once Upon A Time, Comic Book Men, The Walking Dead, and This is Us to name a few. As I meandered my way through the show floor it was heartwarming to see how genuinely grateful the guests were in interacting with their fans. From celebrities and artists to merchants and volunteers, all were welcome with open arms.
If there is one thing I learned, after attending 10 conventions this year, it’s that there is never enough time to experience everything my heart desires. I love though that HVFF provides something to fit the taste of any fan. There was plenty to embrace at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest Atlanta and I definitely had my favorite moments. Finally meeting Jason Momoa and having him sign my artwork was a highlight for sure. From Dothraki to DC, Mr. Momoa is a presence to behold and is as kind as any fan could hope. As if that weren’t enough, I was also given the pleasure of interviewing the light-hearted Ming Chen (Comic Book Men) and incredibly charismatic Rick Cosnett (Vampire Diaries, The Flash, Quantico)… it was such a thrill! I can’t thank them enough for sharing their valuable time and I was easily caught up in listening to them speak about passions for their career, their life, their family. Both articles to follow soon.
Sharing the Love at HVFF
Another memorable moment was seeing Stephen Amell address impassioned Arrow fans during his panel. It brought about some snarky jocularity and lots of laughter… the fans just love OliCity! In addition to the fun though, I have great admiration for the work Stephen does with raising money for Cancer Research… F*ck Cancer. It is sadly a disease that touches us all. Stories of inspiration were shared by fans during the panel which united all in attendance. Heroes and Villains Fan Fest exemplifies what it means to care. Many fans, staff and guests alike were also blessed to meet some very sweet girls handing out rainbow hearts for the simple act of sharing love in response the shooting that happened in Orlando earlier this year. It was beautiful to see the positive message they were sending after such a horrific incident. I was honored to receive one of their coveted hearts and I will cherish it always.
MORE NEWS FROM THE WEB
The biggest highlight for me at any convention of course tends to be the artwork. Yes, I bought more. Yes, I will continue to buy more in the future. I may have a problem but it is one I am not looking to fix… ever. Lol. Thank you Rob Prior for my Deadpool print and for my ‘calculated chaotic’ sketch on the back. I also would like to thank Rob and his incredible team for the kind words regarding an article I wrote for him after an interview at Walker Stalker Con (WSC) in Philly. To be embraced so warmly by people I only recently met means more than words can say and is true to the spirit that is Heroes and Villains Fan Fest. It was an honor to sit down and speak with Rob and I am grateful he made the time to do it. Adoring the Artists
Catching up with artists I admire always tops my convention ‘to do’ list. I want to give a special shout out to some extremely talented and hard working guys… AJ Moore (thank you for the dance), Scott Straka (thank you for the convention advice), and JaCo Tartaruga (thank you for my first convention art purchase ever… and many since). I wish them all much success! I look forward to adding more into my ever expanding collection. 🙂
I must also mention the creative and talented cosplayers; you all help bring the convention experience to an even higher level. Always dressed to impress, well done! And last but certainly not least, the staff and volunteers at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest never cease to amaze me with their kindness and diligence in ensuring the fans have the best experience possible. They truly go above and beyond expectations!
