Captain America: Civil War is the movie of the summer. Our Tim Adams lets loose with his top 8 reactions to this summer blockbuster. How much has the Marvel Cinematic Universe been altered? Who lives? Who dies? Read on to find out.

WARNING:  POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Thursday night, May 6, I had the opportunity to see a showing of Captain America: Civil War. It's become a tradition to see any film tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as soon as possible. Fans can't wait to share their opinions online and on social media. Seeing a movie early allows me to form my own opinions without being swayed by others.

Captain America: Civil War is a follow-up to last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A lot of the tension between Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Tony Stark (Iron Man) that's been brimming over the course of multiple movies explodes in Civil War.

With that in mind, here are my top 8 reactions to Civil War. In no particular order....

EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER

An Injured War Machine From Captain America: Civil War

I was pleasantly surprised to be pulled in emotionally during Civil War. With these bombastic blockbuster movies, I'm prepared to love the action and CGI elements. As long as the story makes sense I'm good. But with Civil War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely give fans characters to care about. We sit on the edge of our seats for every action and subsequent reaction.

It starts with the introduction of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa aka the Black Panther and his father, King T'Chaka. Though we only get a few moments with T'Chaka, his death resonates with T'Challa and starts him on his journey for vengeance.

Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, is a pawn in a much larger scheme. His fight against his Hydra programming is a key element in Civil War. I rooted for him to defeat his programming and become the hero we all know he can (and will) be.

Not every hero walks away the same as they entered Civil War. There is death -- R.I.P. to Crossbones and Peggy Carter -- but Civil War stays away from any of the shocking deaths that took place during the comic book event of the same name. James "Rhodey" Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine also suffers a serious spinal injury at the conclusion of the massive airport battle.

PETER PARKER/TONY STARK CHEMISTRY

Many fans have declared Tom Holland's performance the "definitive Spider-Man." Though Peter Parker/Spider-Man was only on screen for somewhere around 20 minutes, he left a lasting impression. Some of the best moments were Peter's interactions with Tony Stark.

Tony goes to Peter's Queens apartment to recruit him to #TeamIronMan. Their back-and-forth dialogue brought a lighter tone to the film. That's not even factoring in Tony flirting with a very young Aunt May (played by Marisa Tomei).

The two heroes even carried their connection onto the battlefield during the airport battle. Spider-Man -- being all of 16 years old -- would look to Iron Man for orders on what he should be doing or who he should be fighting. With Tony Stark set to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, this was enough to wet our appetites.

SOKOVIA ACCORDS

Sokovia Accords

Sokovia Accords

While the comic book Civil War introduced the Superhero Registration Act, Captain America: Civil War went a different route with the Sokovia Accords. The Superhero Registration Act demanded heroes reveal their secret identities to the government and basically get a license to fight crime. Our heroes in the MCU work out in the open and have no secret identities (Spider-Man excluded). So translating the SRA to the MCU was never going to be a clean transition. Thankfully, there's been enough collateral damage in the last few movies to make up for this.

Instead of registering, the United Nations are requesting that the Avengers sign the accords and operate under their jurisdiction. This makes more sense in the world that Marvel has created on film.

AIRPORT FIGHT SEQUENCE

OMG!!!!! Words cannot explain how awesome this superhero throwdown turned out to be. The trailers and TV spots showed glimpses of some of the fights among Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The fear is the sneak peeks will give away all the good scenes. Trust me -- there is MUCH more where that came from.

What's also awesome is the trailers and TV spots hid the fact that Spider-Man was right there on #TeamIronMan. Thanks to the magic of CGI they were able to keep his inclusion a secret, except for the end of the second trailer that shows Spidey swing in, web Cap's hands and steal his shield. But all that happens before the fighting begins!

Highlights are Spider-Man and Captain America bond over being kids from the burroughs' of New York and Ant-Man going full Giant-Man!

I STARTED ON #TEAMCAP BUT SWITCHED SIDES TO #TEAMIRONMAN

Going into Captain America: Civil War I was firmly on #TeamCap. I was the same way after reading the comics storyline. In the comics Iron Man came across very unlikable and arrogant. Marvel did everything short of turning him into a villain.

Once Iron Man and Captain America start trading punches, my allegiances changed. Steve Rogers hiding the fact that he knew Bucky killed Tony's parents is what did it for me. I would have had the same reaction as Tony after finding that out. I agree with Steve on not signing the Sokovia Accords. But protecting Bucky at any cost has to have a limit.

CAPTAIN AMERICA DIDN'T DIE!

The Death of Captain America

The Death of Captain America

After the "Civil War" event in the comics, Captain America turned himself in to the authorities. On his way to S.H.I.E.L.D. custody he is assassinated. There were many rumors that the film would mirror the comics by killing Cap and putting him on the shelf for a few years. At least until Avengers: Infinity Wars parts 1 and 2. This would be another clever way to save up some of the films remaining in actor Chris Evans' contract.

As we all saw, Captain America is not only alive, but is leading his own team of "Secret Avengers."

THE MID-CREDIT AND AFTER-CREDIT SCENES

Spidey meets Winter Soldier

Spidey Meets The Winter Soldier

Two future Marvel movies are setup in the mid-credit and after-credit scenes. First up in the mid-credits we find out that Bucky is being hidden in Wakanda. Black Panther has agreed to help remove the Winter Soldier brainwashing. Until that happens, Bucky volunteers to go back under ice.

As Steve Rogers and T'Challa look out over the jungles of Wakanda, Steve mentions that if anyone finds out Bucky is being kept there, they'll come for him. This doesn't phase T'Challa at all. He defiantly says "Let them come." We then get our first small glimpse of Wakanda -- followed by a Black Panther statue.

Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther is one of the breakaway stars of Captain America: Civil War. The only downside is we have to wait two years for a Black Panther movie. Fans want more Black Panther. Plus with Bucky being held in Wakanda, there's a chance he could play a small role in Black Panther.

IS CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR THE MCU VERSION OF AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED?

Avengers Disassembled featured image

In the "Avengers Disassembled" comic book story, the Avengers roster and franchise is torn down to be rebuilt stronger than ever. Many longtime Avengers are killed and a new team of Avengers is formed. While no Avengers are killed in Captain America: Civil War, the team makeup has been fundamentally changed.  Half of the roster is in on the run as outlaws by the end of the film. Their public approval rating has to be at an all-time low.

There is no happy ending to this story. The only Avengers Iron Man can count on are Vision and Spider-Man. I'm not sure you want to pull all your faith in an inexperienced teenager. Plus Thor and the Hulk will be busy come Thor: Ragnarok.  These are indeed dark times in the MCU.
